A Doula is a professional who is experienced in childbirth and provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to the mother and partner before, during, and after childbirth.

Studies have shown when using a Doula there is a significant reduction in labor time, interventions, cesarean births, and pain medications. Most hospitals and birthing centers welcome Doulas with open arms. Some insurance companies are covering the cost of a Doula due to the reduction in costly interventions. Postpartum outcomes find that women who use a Doula will have more positive and successful experiences with breast feeding, maternal infant interaction, satisfaction with the birth experience, less postpartum depression, anxiety, and increased self-esteem.

A Doula does not replace your husband or partner, she will stand by for professional support, she understands the physiology of birth and emotional needs of a woman in labor. She will assist you and your partner in preparing for and carrying out your plans for the birth.

As your Doula, I will stay by your side throughout the entire labor. I will provide you with physical comfort measures with an objective viewpoint, and assist you in getting the information you need to make the right decisions for you and your family. I am your advocate, your comfort, and your unconditional support.

A Doula helps make the birth experience to be as rewarding and satisfying as possible. As one father said, “I heaved a big sigh of relief when she (the doula) walked in. I hadn’t realized how much pressure I had been feeling. She not only calmed my wife, she calmed me down.”
